"BENIN PALACE INCIDENT: PELLER DECLARED WANTED OVER UNAPPROVED VISIT"

Social media content creator, Habeeb Hamzat Adelaja, popularly known as Peller, has been declared wanted by the Benin Traditional Council over alleged unauthorized entry into the Benin Royal Palace.

The Council, which oversees matters relating to the Benin monarchy led by Oba Ewuare II, said the incident occurred on March 6, when the content creator and his team reportedly gained access to the palace without approval and produced what it described as controversial content.

In a statement issued by the Secretary of the Council, Mr. Frank Irabor, the act was described as a serious breach of palace protocol, noting that the palace remains a sacred institution governed by long-standing traditions and customs.

“The Palace is not a public space for content creation. It is the spiritual seat of the Oba of Benin and must be respected,” the statement emphasized.

The Council disclosed that preliminary investigations have led to disciplinary actions within the palace. A chief allegedly linked to the incident has been suspended indefinitely, while a staff member identified as Omuemu has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force and charged to court for aiding the unauthorized access.

It also revealed that a queen who appeared in the controversial content is currently undergoing serious traditional disciplinary proceedings, which could lead to her removal from the palace.

According to the Council, Peller was invited to appear before a committee of chiefs to explain his actions but failed to honour the invitation.

The Council has now directed him to present himself immediately and issue a written apology to the palace for the embarrassment caused.

It warned that failure to comply would result in legal action, adding that law enforcement agencies have been notified and are prepared to act.

Reaffirming its position, the Benin Traditional Council stated that it remains committed to preserving the customs and traditions of the Benin Kingdom, warning that any attempt to undermine the institution would not be tolerated.
