OYIGBO HIGH COURT DISMISSES APPLICATION SEEKING TO HALT CHIEF JUDGE ROLE IN FUBARA IMPEACHMENT PROCESS

The Rivers State High Court sitting in Oyigbo has refused to grant a perpetual injunction seeking to restrain the Chief Judge of the state from acting on the Rivers State House of Assembly’s request concerning the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

In his ruling, the presiding judge noted that the subject matter of the suit is already before the Court of Appeal. Consequently, the court declined to entertain the application, stressing that it would be inappropriate to proceed while the appellate court is seized of the matter.
The judge thereafter adjourned the case indefinitely, pending the determination of the appeal.

The ruling effectively leaves the impeachment process as directed by the House of Assembly intact, subject to the final decision of the Court of Appeal.
