"LET'S ACCEPT REV. YINKA YUSUF'S APOLOGY" - GOVERNOR UMO ENO APPEALS TO AKWA IBOM PEOPLE

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has appealed to the people of the state to accept the apology tendered by the Lead Pastor of Household of Love Churches, Rev. Yinka Yusuf, over alleged inflammatory comments made against the state.

The Governor gave the charge during the February edition of the Government House Covenant Service held at the Banquet Hall, Uyo, noting that the state has officially accepted the cleric’s remorse.

Eno further directed the State Attorney General to halt all legal proceedings initially being prepared against Rev. Yusuf.

He said: “As a state, we have put this behind us. We have accepted the apologies. We are even more blessed by the Founder and General Overseer of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor W. F. Kumuyi, who was in the state at the same time for a five-day crusade.”

Highlighting the hospitality of the state, the Governor commended security agencies for their prompt intervention, which he noted prevented youths from taking laws into their hands following the circulation of the offending audio tape.

“We as a government have always prayed against anything evil happening to any of our guests. We are very hospitable and accommodating people. We always ensure our dignitaries come in peace and leave in peace,” he added.

In a related development, Governor Eno announced that the 2nd Anniversary of the Golden Initiative for All (GIFA) will hold on February 20, 2026, at Ibom Hall, Uyo. The date, he noted, coincides with the posthumous birthday of his late wife.

Earlier, the Lead Pastor of Honeystreams Church, Dr. Akomaye Ugar, preaching on the theme “But the Lord stands beside like a great warrior,” urged Christians to rely on God's power through faith and the Word.

The service was attended by the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi; Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong; and other top government functionaries.

CBN REVOKES OPERATING LICENCES OF 46 MICROFINANCE BANKS OVER FAILURE TO MEET REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has revoked the operating licenses of forty-six (46) Microfinance Banks with effect from July 1, 2026. A statement released by the apex bank today July 1, says the revocation was approved by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, following the banks’ failure to meet the regulatory requirements for continued operation as licensed financial institutions. According to the revocation order, the action became necessary due to Insufficient assets to meet liabilities, Closure of operations without the CBN approval, Inactivity and cessation of financial intermediation, Failure to commence operations within 12 months of licence approval, and Failure to maintain minimum capital funds unimpaired by losses. The Federal Government has announced plans to discontinue the policy separating the administration of Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) and Senior Secondary Schools (SSS), describing it as an ineffective reform that has contributed to rising school dropout rates. Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, made the announcement on Tuesday in Abuja, saying the policy, which created separate management structures for JSS and SSS, has failed to achieve its objectives. According to him, it has created unnecessary administrative bottlenecks and made it more difficult for students to progress from junior to senior secondary school.
