The Rivers State Police Command has commenced an investigation into a gruesome murder that occurred in Port Harcourt.
According to police reports, the incident was formally reported on March 21, 2026, by Miss Divine Anyanwu of No. 9 Aliobi Drive, Elimgbu, at the Abuloma Police Division. She stated that on March 19, 2026, at about 7:00 p.m., she and her friend, identified as Special Bensington, boarded a Bolt ride from a hotel on Emmanuel Road, off Odili Road.
While travelling through the Total Gospel area, also off Odili Road, the victims were allegedly ambushed by unidentified armed hoodlums believed to have trailed them from the hotel. The attackers, who were operating a tricycle, reportedly opened fire, leaving one of the victims with severe gunshot injuries.
The injured victim was immediately rushed to BMH Hospital in Port Harcourt, where she later died on March 21, 2026, while receiving treatment.
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Abuloma Division and his team visited both the scene of the incident and the hospital. The deceased has since been deposited in the mortuary for an autopsy.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further discreet and forensic investigation, as authorities intensify efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The Police Command has strongly condemned the attack, describing it as heinous, and assured the public that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
