GROUP ASKS INEC TO DISQUALIFY CHINDA AS APC RIVERS GUBER CANDIDATE AFTER SUPREME COURT JUDGEMENT

The Association of Legislative Drafting and Advocacy Practitioners (ALDRAP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disqualify Kingsley Chinda as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State for the 2027 election.

The group made the demand in a letter dated September 26 and signed by its Executive Secretary, Tonye Jaja.

According to the association, its request is connected to a pending legal challenge over aspects of Chinda’s nomination as the APC governorship candidate.

ALDRAP also urged INEC to convene an urgent meeting involving the association, the APC and Chinda, with a view to exploring an out-of-court settlement of the matter.

The group said such a meeting would provide an opportunity for the parties to address the issues surrounding the nomination and potentially resolve the dispute without further litigation.

The development comes against the backdrop of a recent Supreme Court judgment referenced by the association in its correspondence to INEC.

ALDRAP’s position is that the issues raised in its pending suit should be addressed before the electoral process proceeds further.

The association therefore asked INEC to consider its request and take appropriate action regarding Chinda’s candidacy.
