NSCDC OPERATIVES RAID ILLEGAL JUICE FACTORY IN BADAGRY, LAGOS ARREST TWO WOMEN

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have raided an alleged illegal juice factory in Aradagun, Badagry area of Lagos State, arresting two women in connection with the operation.

The factory, located on Talabi Onilegbale Street, Aradagun, Olorunda LCDA, was uncovered around 9 p.m. on September 19, 2026, following five days of surveillance after the corps received intelligence about activities at the premises.

According to the NSCDC, the factory was producing a drink branded Barkas Juice under Titi Alubarika Trading Stores Ltd. The corps claimed the product was unregistered and carried a purportedly fake NAFDAC registration number, 01-2166L.

A truck loaded with the drinks was found at the premises, alongside cartons of the products and rolls of product labels.

The NSCDC also stated that water used for production was sourced from a dirty well within the premises, while an unclean industrial storage tank was also found.

The corps claimed the products were being distributed to Edo State and other parts of the country and described the production process as a public health concern.

NSCDC spokesperson, Oluwaseun Abolurin, said the corps contacted NAFDAC to verify the registration number and was informed that the product was not registered. He also stated that the drink contained high levels of sugar, additives and dyes, although he did not provide laboratory findings to substantiate the claim.

The operation faced resistance from some youths in the area, prompting the NSCDC to involve the Nigerian Army as part of its inter-agency collaboration.

However, the primary suspect, 48-year-old Morenikeji Alawiye, gave a different account, saying the factory was established by her grandmother nearly two decades ago and had previously produced bottled and sachet water.

Alawiye said she had been trying to regularise the business before her arrest and claimed she had contacted an uncle working with NAFDAC for assistance. She also said a prospective customer in The Gambia had expressed interest in having the product manufactured for export.
