PRINCE JOHN TAMUNOKURO HONOURED AS AMBASSADOR FOR PEACE BY UNIVERSAL PEACE BUILDERS ASSOCIATION

President of the Port Harcourt Township United Pressure Group, Prince John Tamunokuro, has been honoured with an Ambassador for Peace Award by the Universal Peace Builders Association Global, Rivers State Chapter.

The award was presented on Thursday, September 25, 2026, in recognition of his commitment to peace, leadership, community service and the promotion of peaceful coexistence in Rivers State and beyond.

Receiving the honour, Tamunokuro described the recognition as a significant moment in his journey of service, stressing that it comes with greater responsibility to promote peace, unity, constructive dialogue and social cohesion.

He said the award was not merely a personal celebration but an affirmation of the values of responsible leadership, community service, unity and peaceful coexistence which he has continued to uphold.

Tamunokuro dedicated the honour first to God Almighty, whom he credited as the source of his strength, wisdom and accomplishments.

He also dedicated the recognition to the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, whom he described as his political father, acknowledging the Governor's leadership and contributions to the development of the state.

The President further expressed appreciation to his principal, Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie, for his guidance, mentorship, encouragement and support throughout his leadership journey.

He also dedicated the recognition to members of the Port Harcourt Township United Pressure Group, describing the award as a collective responsibility and an encouragement to remain committed to their shared vision.

According to him, leadership should be measured not only by positions held but also by the positive impact made, bridges built, lives inspired and peace preserved.

Tamunokuro pledged to receive the honour with humility and renewed commitment to service, noting that peace requires deliberate efforts anchored on mutual respect, dialogue, justice, tolerance and harmonious coexistence.

He thanked everyone who attended the ceremony, celebrated with him, offered prayers and sent messages of goodwill, praying that God Almighty would continue to bless and guide them in the service of humanity.

“This honour is received with gratitude. This responsibility is accepted with humility. And the commitment to peace continues,” Tamunokuro stated.

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, has defended Nigeria’s petrol pricing, saying Nigerians are already benefiting from local refining despite the product being sold at a price linked to the global market. The United Kingdom has removed Nigeria and Ghana from the list of countries whose teacher-trained professionals are eligible to apply for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), a requirement for teaching in many schools across England. The change took effect on September 9, according to the UK Department for Education (DfE). The department said overseas teaching qualifications and experience are assessed against strict requirements to ensure teachers awarded QTS meet its standards. For countries to remain eligible, they must have a national regulator capable of confirming a teacher’s professional standing and provide authenticated references. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, immediate past Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), has said public universities across Nigeria may need to charge at least ₦1 million in tuition per student to achieve financial self-sustainability. Olatunji-Bello made the remarks in a recent interview while reflecting on her five-year tenure, which ended on Saturday. Italy is preparing to introduce new school rules that would ban face veils such as burqas and niqabs and limit the number of foreign students in each classroom, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced on Sunday.  Speaking at an annual youth event organised by her Brothers of Italy party, Meloni said a measure would soon be presented to the Cabinet. Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has revealed that some Nigerians asked him to “slow down” efforts to improve electricity supply because their freezers were now working continuously.  Tegbe made the disclosure on Wednesday in Abuja while commissioning a 3-megawatt solar hybrid power project at Yakubu Gowon University, formerly the University of Abuja.  According to the Minister, some areas that previously went without electricity for months are now enjoying up to 18 hours of supply.  “Places that didn’t have light at all for three months are now having 18 hours light.
