Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has declared Monday, November 24, 2025, as a statewide day of fasting and prayer to seek divine intervention in addressing the rising terrorist attacks in the state. In a televised address, Zulum urged residents of Borno, regardless of their faith, to join in prayer for lasting peace and prosperity in the state and Nigeria.

The governor's call comes amid a spike in attacks targeting schools and religious institutions across northern Nigeria. Zulum acknowledged the 15-year Boko Haram insurgency that has displaced millions of people and disrupted socio-economic activities in the state. He commended the people of Borno for their resilience and support for security agencies, assuring them of his administration's continued investment in security and community-based vigilance.

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Nyesom Wike has asked Ajibola Basiru, national secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to apologise to the FCT minister within 48 hours. PRESIDENT TINUBU NOMINATES ABE AS CHAIR OF NUPRC, SEEKS SENATE CONFIRMATION

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has written two letters to the Senate, seeking the appointment of Senator Abe as Chairman of the Board of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).   Senator Magnus Abe, who represented Rivers South East in the Senate for two terms, is a former NNPC board member and current chairman of the National Agency of the Great Green Wall.   The President urged the Senate to approve the nominees expeditiously.   Before now, the Senate had confirmed Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan as the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).   The President's announcement was signed by Bayo Onanuga Special Adviser to the President, (Information & Strategy).

Rivers State Executive Council (EXCO) has approved a proposed ₦1.85 trillion budget for the 2026 fiscal year. The budget is tagged “Budget of Resilience for Growth and Development.” The approval was given on Friday, January 2, 2026, at the EXCO meeting held at Government House, Port Harcourt, and chaired by Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Speaking after the meeting, the Special Adviser on Economic Matters, Prof. Peter Medee, said the budget will be used to complete ongoing projects and settle outstanding obligations of the state. He said key areas of focus include infrastructure, health, education, agriculture, youth empowerment, human capacity development, culture, tourism, and ICT.
