DAVID MARK BOWS OUT AS ADC INTERIM CHAIRMAN, RALPH NWOSU SET TO LEAD PARTY TO CONVENTION

Fresh developments within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) indicate that Senator David Mark has reportedly agreed to step aside as interim national chairman, paving the way for former party chairman Ralph Nwosu to take charge of the leadership process ahead of the party’s national convention. The move comes amid the ongoing leadership dispute and growing pressure over the legality of the current structure following recent actions by INEC. 

Party insiders say the decision is aimed at stabilising the ADC and allowing the convention process to move forward under a familiar leadership figure. Ralph Nwosu, who previously handed over the party structure to David Mark, is now expected to supervise the convention and help resolve internal tensions as the opposition coalition prepares for the 2027 elections. The development has already triggered strong reactions within political circles, with many seeing it as a major twist in the ADC’s power struggle.

CBN REVOKES OPERATING LICENCES OF 46 MICROFINANCE BANKS OVER FAILURE TO MEET REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has revoked the operating licenses of forty-six (46) Microfinance Banks with effect from July 1, 2026. A statement released by the apex bank today July 1, says the revocation was approved by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, following the banks’ failure to meet the regulatory requirements for continued operation as licensed financial institutions. According to the revocation order, the action became necessary due to Insufficient assets to meet liabilities, Closure of operations without the CBN approval, Inactivity and cessation of financial intermediation, Failure to commence operations within 12 months of licence approval, and Failure to maintain minimum capital funds unimpaired by losses. The Federal Government has announced plans to discontinue the policy separating the administration of Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) and Senior Secondary Schools (SSS), describing it as an ineffective reform that has contributed to rising school dropout rates. Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, made the announcement on Tuesday in Abuja, saying the policy, which created separate management structures for JSS and SSS, has failed to achieve its objectives.
