BREAKING NEWS: JUSTICE OMOTOSHO'S COURT STOPS INEC FROM RECOGNISING PDP NATIONAL CONVENTION RESULTS. | #RWGBLOG


Federal High Court in Abuja issued an interim order barring the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising any outcome of the party’s planned national convention scheduled for November 15–16, 2025.

Delivering the ruling, Justice James Omotosho held that the PDP violated key provisions of the Electoral Act and its own constitution in the build-up to the convention.

Why the Court Stopped the Convention Outcome

The court cited several procedural breaches by the PDP, including:

Failure to conduct mandatory congresses in some states.

Issuing party notices and official correspondence signed only by the National Chairman, without the National Secretary’s signature a practice the judge ruled unconstitutional.

Failure to give INEC the statutory 21-day notice before holding meetings and congresses, denying the commission its legal right to monitor.

Justice Omotosho consequently restrained INEC from “receiving, publishing, or recognising” the outcome of the convention pending full compliance with the law.

The Suit

The case was filed by three PDP members:

Austin Nwachukwu (Imo)

Amah Abraham Nnanna (Abia)

Turnah Alabh George (South-South Secretary)

They argued that the party leadership was conducting the convention in violation of laid-down procedures, thereby disenfranchising members.

The Force had initially announced on December 15, 2025, that it would resume enforcement of the policy as part of efforts to enhance public safety and internal security.  However, an interim court order issued on December 17, 2025, in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, directed the Police to halt the implementation pending the hearing and determination of the substantive case or the lifting of the order. In compliance with the directive, the NPF entered an appearance in court, filed preliminary objections, and applied for the vacation of the interim order. The matter has since been adjourned to January 20, 2026, for further proceedings. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has written two letters to the Senate, seeking the appointment of Senator Abe as Chairman of the Board of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).   Senator Magnus Abe, who represented Rivers South East in the Senate for two terms, is a former NNPC board member and current chairman of the National Agency of the Great Green Wall.   The President urged the Senate to approve the nominees expeditiously.   Before now, the Senate had confirmed Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan as the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).   The President's announcement was signed by Bayo Onanuga Special Adviser to the President, (Information & Strategy).

Wike says he’ll be buried politically if Fubara secures second term  Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), says his political career would be ruined if Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers, secures a second term. Speaking on Saturday during a stakeholders’ meeting in Okrika LGA of Rivers state, Wike said  a decision has been made on Fubara’s second term ambition. “We have made a decision as far as Tinubu is concerned. The other one [Fubara] — no way. Because if we make another mistake, then we will go and bury ourselves politically. I will not allow myself to be buried. Rivers State Executive Council (EXCO) has approved a proposed ₦1.85 trillion budget for the 2026 fiscal year. The budget is tagged “Budget of Resilience for Growth and Development.” The approval was given on Friday, January 2, 2026, at the EXCO meeting held at Government House, Port Harcourt, and chaired by Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Speaking after the meeting, the Special Adviser on Economic Matters, Prof. Peter Medee, said the budget will be used to complete ongoing projects and settle outstanding obligations of the state. He said key areas of focus include infrastructure, health, education, agriculture, youth empowerment, human capacity development, culture, tourism, and ICT.

BREAKING: CANADA DEPORTS 366 NIGERIANS, 974 MORE AWAIT REMOVAL

Canada has deported 366 Nigerians between January and October 2025, reflecting a sharp increase in immigration enforcement, according to data from the Canada Border Services Agency. The records also show that 974 Nigerians are currently listed as “removal in progress” and are awaiting deportation. Nigeria ranked ninth among the top 10 countries with the highest number of removals in 2025 and is the only African country on the list. Deportations of Nigerians have fluctuated over the years, dropping from 339 in 2019 to 199 in 2022, before rising again in 2025 with an eight per cent increase compared to 2019. The removals are part of Canada’s intensified immigration crackdown, with nearly 400 foreign nationals being deported weekly. WIKE-LED PDP FACTION GIVES APC NATIONAL SECRETARY 48 HOURS TO APOLOGISE

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Nyesom Wike has asked Ajibola Basiru, national secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to apologise to the FCT minister within 48 hours. On Monday, Basiru asked Wike to resign his appointment and focus on what he described as an “obsession” with Rivers state politics. Wike had asked the APC national secretary to stay off Rivers politics.
