President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sadness over the abdu(c)tion of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the kil(ling of soldiers figh(t)ing insu.(r)gents in Borno. He has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to travel to Kebbi on Wednesday to console the state government and reassure parents that the girls will be rescued as quickly as possible.

According to a statement from his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the President also extended his condolences to the military following the death of several soldiers, including Brigadier General Musa Uba, who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Tinubu noted that he had been fully briefed on both incidents and admitted that it was especially painful considering that intelligence had earlier warned of a possible att[.a]ck.

He said the loss of the soldiers hit him hard, describing them as heroes who paid the ultimate price for the country. He also condemned the att[.a]ck on the schoolgirls, calling it heartbreaking and unacceptable.

The President ordered security agencies to move swiftly and ensure the girls are returned safely. He also stressed that the fight against insecurity requires community support.

“Our security forces cannot protect us effectively without the cooperation of the people,” he said. “I urge community leaders and residents, especially in affected areas, to share information that can help keep our communities safe. Your support is vital in overcoming these challenges.”
