BREAKING NEWS: FEDERAL HIGH COURT BARS POLICE FROM ENFORCING TINTED GLASS PERMITS NATIONWIDE

A Federal High Court judgment delivered today, Wednesday, December 17, 2025, has officially banned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and all officers from enforcing tinted glass permit policies.

The court, presided over by Justice Joe Egwu, also barred the police from harassing, arresting, detaining, or extorting motorists and citizens under the guise of implementing the policy. The injunction further restrains the police from using the Parkway Projects Account a private contractor’s account for any government business until the substantive suit is heard and determined.

The order followed an application filed by Mr. Israel Joe in suit HOR/FHR/M.3/2025, represented by Mr. Kunle Edun, SAN, and other lawyers. It effectively stops the Nigeria Police from resuming the tinted glass permit enforcement scheduled for January 2, 2026.

Justice Egwu emphasized that the injunction would remain in force pending the hearing and determination of the main suit, ensuring that citizens and motorists are protected from any enforcement actions or harassment linked to the policy.

The court also approved substituted service on the respondents through the Delta State Police Command Headquarters in Asaba, declaring such service valid and proper.

Key Takeaways:

  • The Ban: Police are strictly prohibited from stopping, arresting, or demanding permits from any motorist.
  • Your Rights: No Nigerian citizen or car owner is required to show a tint permit to the police.
  • Protection: Download the court order (attached) and keep it in your vehicle. If you are stopped by officers claiming ignorance of this ruling, present this document to protect yourself from harassment.
