JUBILATION IN THE LAND OF THE GODS AS AKWA IBOM MASQUERADE ALLEGEDLY WINS IN COURT, GOVERNMENT TO PAY FOR D@MAGES | #RWGBLOG
Governor Umo Eno banned public Ekpo displays in late Nov 2025, citing crime and extortion.
Police arrested several masqueraders, including David Effiong on Dec 1.
On Dec 4, Akwa Ibom High Court ruled the arrest unlawful, ordered Effiong’s immediate release, and awarded him damages.
The court declared the blanket ban unconstitutional (violates freedom of religion, movement, and expression).
