N600BN WAR CHEST WON'T GUARANTEE FUBARA'S RE-ELECTION IN 2027 FCT MINISTER WIKE

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that the reported ₦600 billion war chest allegedly being amassed by Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, will not guarantee his re-election in 2027.

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, made the assertion while speaking to political stakeholders, insisting that financial strength alone cannot secure electoral victory without strong political structures and loyalty to agreements reached within the party.

According to him, politics is built on trust, understanding and respect for agreements, stressing that any leader who disregards political arrangements should not expect support when elections approach.

The FCT minister alleged that Governor Fubara had abandoned earlier political understandings that brought him to power, adding that such actions have consequences within the state’s political landscape.

Wike further warned that attempting to rely solely on financial resources to win elections would fail, noting that Rivers politics has always been driven by grassroots structures rather than money alone.

He maintained that the 2027 governorship contest would not be decided by “war chests” but by political alignment, credibility and the will of the people.

The comments come amid lingering political tension between Wike and his successor, Governor Fubara, which has continued to shape alignments and rival camps within Rivers State’s political space.
