BREAKING NEWS: POLICE SUSPEND NATIONWIDE ENFORCEMENT OF TINTED GLASS PERMIT PENDING COURT RULING
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has suspended the planned nationwide enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy earlier scheduled to commence on January 2, 2026.
The Force had initially announced on December 15, 2025, that it would resume enforcement of the policy as part of efforts to enhance public safety and internal security.
However, an interim court order issued on December 17, 2025, in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, directed the Police to halt the implementation pending the hearing and determination of the substantive case or the lifting of the order.
In compliance with the directive, the NPF entered an appearance in court, filed preliminary objections, and applied for the vacation of the interim order. The matter has since been adjourned to January 20, 2026, for further proceedings.
Consequently, the Police have placed the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy on hold nationwide, strictly adhering to the subsisting court order.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to the rule of law, stressing that the Nigeria Police Force remains dedicated to its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property.
He noted that lawful and intelligence-led policing strategies will continue to be deployed to address security challenges across the country.
The public has been assured that further updates and clear directives will be communicated after the court reaches a determination on the matter, in the interest of public order and national security.
