HOUSE OF REPS MEMBERS IKENGA UGOCHINYERE DUMPS PDP FOR APP
Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, a prominent member of the House of Representatives, has officially severed ties with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP),moving to the Action People’s Party (APP).
Speaking on Wednesday from his country home in Akokwa, Imo State, the Ideato North/South representative, Hon Ugochinyere described the PDP as a party trapped in a cycle of internal litigation and self-destruction, rendering his continued stay untenable.
He recounted a turbulent tenure marked by betrayal, noting that while he worked to secure victory in a constituency the party had lost for fifteen years, his own colleagues were actively testifying against him in election tribunals.
Declaring that he would no longer "test God" by remaining in a hostile environment, he expressed a desire to build the APP from the ground up, describing it as a platform powered by the energy of a younger generation.
Beyond his defection, the lawmaker used the platform to issue a stern warning to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Addressing the ongoing public friction between Wike and the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator Azuta Mbata, Ugochinyere characterised the Minister’s recent comments as an affront to the entire Igbo race.
He warned that verbal attacks on the leadership of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation constitute a "red line" that will not be tolerated by Igbos globally.
Hon Ugochinyere further called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and caution the FCT Minister against further denigration of Igbo leadership.
He reminded the Minister that Senator Mbata is a figure of high standing who once provided Wike with a political lifeline, making his current "trade of words" particularly inappropriate.
Hon. Ugochinyere’s exit is a significant blow to the PDP in Imo State, where he served as the party’s sole federal legislator.
