NIGERIA ARMY EMERGES AFRICA'S BEST NATIONAL ARMY IN COUNTER-T£RROR!SM OPERATIONS

The Nigerian Army has been named Africa’s Best National Army in Counter-t+rrorism Operations for 2025 by African Security Watch, in recognition of its operational successes, strategic leadership and commitment to combating t+rrorism and v+olent extremism.

In a statement by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, the award reflects the Army’s emergence as Africa’s leading force in Counter-t+rrorism and Counter-Insurgency Operations (CTCOIN), following years of intelligence-led operations that have weakened t+rrorist groups, restored security to affected communities and contributed to regional peace.

The award was presented to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja by Maj. Gen. Teriworie Gagariga, who had earlier received it on the Army’s behalf during the African Security Watch Awards Ceremony in Banjul, The Gambia.

Receiving the award, Shaibu described the honour as recognition of the “extraordinary courage, professionalism, resilience and unwavering dedication” of officers and soldiers defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and protecting its citizens.

He dedicated the award to personnel who paid the supreme sacrifice and their families, saying their courage continues to inspire the Army’s mission to secure the nation.

The COAS also reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to sustaining its gains through enhanced intelligence-led operations, stronger inter-agency collaboration, improved training, better personnel welfare and the acquisition of modern capabilities.

According to African Security Watch, the Nigerian Army earned the recognition for its coordinated joint operations, intelligence-driven campaigns, effective civil-military cooperation, force development and capacity building, which have significantly weakened t+rrorist organisations and strengthened security across Nigeria and the region.

CAN OPPOSES N50,000 FINE FOR PREACHING IN COMMERCIAL BUSES, SAYS IT VIOLATES NIGERIANS CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS, URGES TINUBU TO REJECT BILL

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), South-West zone, has rejected the proposed ban on preaching inside commercial vehicles, warning that the measure could violate Nigerians’ constitutional rights. The reaction follows the passage of the Federal Road Safety Corps (Amendment) Bill, 2026, by the Senate. The bill proposes a ₦50,000 fine for anyone convicted of hawking, trading or preaching inside commercial vehicles. It also prescribes a ₦50,000 fine, six months’ imprisonment, or both for motorists who refuse to cooperate with FRSC officials during roadside breath tests conducted on reasonable suspicion. Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza of the Kebbi State High Court has been abd¥cted by suspected b@ndits after g¥nmen stormed his residence in Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The att@ck reportedly occurred around midnight on Sunday, shortly after the judge returned from a trip to Sokoto. According to sources, the g¥nmen invaded his home along Zogirma Road and took him away.
