HYPREP BOT CHAIRMAN BACKS DR. THOMAS BARIERE, ENDORSES KHANA STAKEHOLDERS' RESOLUTIONS

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of HYPREP and Political Leader of Khana and Ogoni, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Nwika Deeyah, has commended the Executive Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Chief Dr. Thomas Bariere, DSSRS, CNA, for his steadfast leadership and commitment to promoting peace and security in Khana.

During a condolence visit to the Council over the tragic killing of Mr. Letam Kine (Langa), Rt. Hon. Deeyah declared his full support for the resolutions of the Khana Stakeholders' Meeting held on 19th July, 2026. He assured the Executive Chairman of his unwavering support and urged him not to be intimidated by blackmail or distracted by unfounded criticism, but to remain focused and continue the good work of restoring lasting peace, security, and development in Khana.

In his response, Chief Dr. Thomas Bariere appreciated the HYPREP BOT Chairman for the visit, encouragement, and endorsement, reaffirming his administration's commitment to working with security agencies, traditional institutions, and all stakeholders to protect lives, safeguard property, and sustain peace across Khana.

Together, we remain committed to a peaceful, secure, and prosperous Khana.

Letam Kinen, popularly known as Langa, has been killed by gunmen suspected to be cultists. Kinen was reportedly shot dead by unknown gunmen in Bori on Sunday, July 26, 2026. The circumstances surrounding the killing remain unclear as of the time of filing this report, while the identity and motive of the attackers are yet to be established. CENTRAL BANK OF NIGERIA SPENT N464 BILLION DESTROYING NAIRA NOTE IN 2025 - REPORT

A new report by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has revealed that the apex bank spent ₦464 billion on printing, distributing, processing and destroying worn-out naira notes in 2025.  The amount represents a 94% increase from the ₦238.6 billion spent in 2024, making currency issuance one of the CBN’s biggest operational expenses during the year.  The report also showed that the CBN and its subsidiaries spent ₦416 billion on personnel costs, including ₦56.2 billion on salaries, ₦28.2 billion on defined benefit plans, ₦226 billion on staff allowances and ₦87.1 billion on other staff expenses.  In addition, the report revealed that losses from digital payment fraud dropped significantly to ₦25.85 billion in 2025 from ₦52.26 billion in 2024.  Despite the improvement, the CBN warned that cyber threats, systemic risks, the dominance of a few major payment service providers and the activities of unlicensed operators continue to pose risks to Nigeria’s financial...
