The Supreme Court has dismissed an application for stay of execution of an Appeal Court ruling that led to the decision of electoral body, INEC to derecognize the Senator David Mark leadership of the Action Democratic Congress, ADC. This dismissal by the Apex Court on Tuesday followed the withdrawal of the application by senator Mark's counsel Jibril Okutekpa, SAN. Okutekpa had informed the five-member apex court panel headed by Justice Lawal Garba that INEC's interpretation of the Court of Appeal decision on March 12 has made the party 'leaderless.' He says the 'injunctive order' for the aggrieved parties to maintain 'status quo antebellum' is the reason for the current leadership vacuum in the ADC. He prayed the court for urgent action in view of the time constraints in the lead up to next year's crucial polls. In its intervention, the apex court gave procedural directions to fast-track the process, including abridging time for fili...
A member of Kaani community have expressed anger and disappointment over what he describe as a misplaced priority by their Local Government Area (LGA) chairman, following the donation of a transformer to a community with no electricity infrastructure. Speaking from Be-laka Compound, Tambari Jacob criticized the move, noting that Kaani lacks basic facilities required to utilize the transformer, including electrical poles and any prior connection to power supply. “Demanding accountability must be rooted in honesty,” Tambari stated, comparing the situation to sponsoring someone without the ability to compete. “How can a transformer be donated to a community that has never had electricity? There are no poles, no connections—nothing.” He described the donation as a mockery of the people, arguing that it fails to address the real needs of the community. Tambari Jacob further recalled that during the chairman’s first tenure, promises were made to renovate the local secondary schoo...
The absence of Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, at the Night of Tribute organised in honour of the late Senator Barinada Barry Mpigi has continued to generate political discourse across the state. The well-attended Night of Tribute, held in Port Harcourt, drew several political leaders, traditional rulers, and associates of the deceased lawmaker who passed away in February 2026 at the age of 64. However, notable observers pointed out the conspicuous absence of the state governor. Senator Mpigi, who represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly and previously served as a member of the House of Representatives, was widely regarded as a grassroots politician with strong ties across the state. His death triggered an outpouring of tributes from various quarters, including from Governor Fubara himself, who had earlier described the late senator as a brother and a committed leader whose services were still needed by the people of Rivers St...

Fresh concerns have emerged within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following comments by former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, suggesting he could leave the party if internal processes are compromised. Speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Monday, Obi explained the reasons behind his past party defections, insisting that his decisions were driven by principle rather than personal gain. Obi recalled that his first major switch, from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stemmed from disagreements with his successor as governor of Anambra State. “I moved from APGA to the PDP because of issues with my successor. Rather than allow it to become t+xic and become destructive to governance of the State, I moved out,” he said. According to Obi, his experience in the PDP was not significantly different, as he claimed the party environment was dominated by disregard for rules and excessive political bargaining. “...
The United States has begun enforcing a new visa restriction policy aimed at individuals accused of violating religious freedom in Nigeria, according to Mark Walker, the US principal adviser for global religious freedom. The policy, announced in December by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, targets those who “knowingly direct, authorise, fund, support, or carry out violations of religious freedom.” It forms part of broader US action in response to what officials described as “atrocities and violence against Christians” in Nigeria and globally. The move followed a resolution introduced by Chris Smith, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Africa Subcommittee, which recommended visa bans and asset freezes for individuals and organisations linked to severe religious freedom ab¥ses. The resolution specifically named the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria and Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore as entities of concern. Providing an update on Friday via X, W...

The nationwide sticker shock put pressure on President Donald Trump, who has ordered peace talks with Iran and faces mid-term elections in November.
The African Democratic Congress has announced a new venue for its national convention scheduled to be held in Abuja on Tuesday. Earlier on Monday, the ADC said it was denied access to both Eagle Square and the Moshood Abiola National Stadium for its convention. The opposition party said it had written to the office of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, seeking permission to use Eagle Square, but although the letter was acknowledged, no official response had been received. But in another statement, the ADC said the national convention will take place at the Rainbow Event Centre in Abuja. But the FCT Minister has dismissed allegations by the ADC that it was denied access to Eagle Square in Abuja. Wike described the claims as “unfounded” and an attempt to gain public sympathy. He said no formal application had been submitted by any of the parties making the allegation.
