AKWA IBOM ASSEMBLY SET TO PASS BILL BANNING AFFAIRS WITH MARRIED MEN
The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly is expected to pass a bill into law on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, prohibiting sexual relationships with married men.
The bill, sponsored by the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Her Excellency Senator Akon Inyang, is scheduled for passage during Tuesday’s plenary session of the Assembly.
According to the provisions of the proposed law, any girl, lady, or woman found guilty of engaging in a sexual relationship with a married man will face a 10-year prison sentence without the option of a fine. The married man involved, on the other hand, will be liable to pay a fine of ₦2 million.
The bill has sparked public debate, with many residents and rights groups expressing mixed reactions ahead of its expected passage.
