OBEY COURT ORDER RESTRAINING IMPEACHMENT PROCESS AGAINST FUBARA, RIVERS APC TELLS CHIEF JUDGE


The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Chief Judge of the state to comply with a court injunction restraining him from taking any action related to impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party emphasized the importance of respecting the rule of law and judicial orders in sustaining democracy, urging all stakeholders to act within constitutional limits. The APC maintained that the subsisting court order must be obeyed until it is set aside by a court of competent jurisdiction.

The party warned that any action taken in defiance of the injunction could further escalate political tensions in the state, already grappling with a protracted crisis involving the executive and the legislature.

According to the APC, adherence to due process would help preserve institutional integrity and public confidence in the judiciary. The party also appealed to political actors to exercise restraint and allow legal processes to run their full course.

The Supreme Court has dismissed an application for stay of execution of an Appeal Court ruling that led to the decision of electoral body, INEC to derecognize the Senator David Mark leadership of the Action Democratic Congress, ADC.  This dismissal by the Apex Court on Tuesday followed the withdrawal of the application by senator Mark's counsel Jibril Okutekpa, SAN.  Okutekpa had informed the five-member apex court panel headed by Justice Lawal Garba that INEC's interpretation of the Court of Appeal decision on March 12 has made the party 'leaderless.'  He says the 'injunctive order' for the aggrieved parties to maintain 'status quo antebellum' is the reason for the current leadership vacuum in the ADC. The leader of South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema, has been sentenced to an effective five-year term of imprisonment for unlawfully discharging a firearm during the party’s 2018 rally in Mdantsane. The judgment was delivered by Magistrate Twanet Olivier at the KuGompo City Regional Court. Malema was handed a five-year sentence on the primary charge and an additional two years on a secondary count. ADC DENIED EAGLE MKO ABIOLA STADIUM FOR CONVENTION

The African Democratic Congress has announced a new venue for its national convention scheduled to be held in Abuja on Tuesday. Earlier on Monday, the ADC said it was denied access to both Eagle Square and the Moshood Abiola National Stadium for its convention.  The opposition party said it had written to the office of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, seeking permission to use Eagle Square, but although the letter was acknowledged, no official response had been received. But in another statement, the ADC said the national convention will take place at the Rainbow Event Centre in Abuja. But the FCT Minister has dismissed allegations by the ADC that it was denied access to Eagle Square in Abuja.  Wike described the claims as “unfounded” and an attempt to gain public sympathy. He said no formal application had been submitted by any of the parties making the allegation.
