On Saturday, January 17, 2026, over ten thousand members of the Port Harcourt Township United Pressure Group converged to formally kick off their activities for the year.

The group, known for its advocacy for good governance and strong support for Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, began the year with visible strength, unity, and commitment as members turned out in large numbers.

As part of the event, food items including rice and meat were distributed to all members, courtesy of Hon. Tekena Obosi, in appreciation of their unwavering support for the group and Governor Fubara.

Speaking at the gathering, the President Hon. Prince John, reiterated his commitment to effective leadership and assured members that Governor Fubara would always recognize and value their continuous support.

He also warned members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to exercise caution, stressing that any further attempt to impeach the governor would be met with a mass occupation of the Assembly complex by the group.

In his closing remarks, the President reaffirmed the group’s total support and endorsement of Governor Siminalayi Fubara for the 2027 re-election. He further urged members to also support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Fubara in their bid for a second term.

The Supreme Court has dismissed an application for stay of execution of an Appeal Court ruling that led to the decision of electoral body, INEC to derecognize the Senator David Mark leadership of the Action Democratic Congress, ADC. This dismissal by the Apex Court on Tuesday followed the withdrawal of the application by senator Mark's counsel Jibril Okutekpa, SAN. The leader of South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema, has been sentenced to an effective five-year term of imprisonment for unlawfully discharging a firearm during the party’s 2018 rally in Mdantsane. The African Democratic Congress has announced a new venue for its national convention scheduled to be held in Abuja on Tuesday. Earlier on Monday, the ADC said it was denied access to both Eagle Square and the Moshood Abiola National Stadium for its convention. The opposition party said it had written to the office of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, seeking permission to use Eagle Square, but although the letter was acknowledged, no official response had been received. But in another statement, the ADC said the national convention will take place at the Rainbow Event Centre in Abuja. But the FCT Minister has dismissed allegations by the ADC that it was denied access to Eagle Square in Abuja. Wike described the claims as “unfounded” and an attempt to gain public sympathy.
