OYIGBO RIGHTFUL BELONGS TO OGONI'S - CELESTINE AKPOBARI DECLARES

Fresh attention has been drawn to the long-running territorial debate surrounding Oyigbo Local Government Area, following renewed comments by rights activist and environmentalist, Comrade AkpoBari Celestine, who maintains that Oyigbo is historically part of Ogoniland.

In his remarks, Akpobari called for a careful re-examination of historical documents and boundary markers, arguing that available records clearly situate Oyigbo within Ogoniland.

He pointed to the Imo River as the traditionally acknowledged boundary separating Ogoniland from neighboring Abia State.

The activist traced the origin of the dispute to events during the military era, alleging that a military operation under the late Sani Abacha disrupted long-standing territorial arrangements.

He said the operation resulted in the displacement of Ogoni communities and altered control over parts of the area.

Akpobari appealed to stakeholders, including community leaders and government authorities, to approach the matter through peaceful dialogue and lawful channels.

He emphasized that unity among the Ogoni people and respect for historical facts remain crucial in addressing the issue.
