BREAKING NEWS: OVER 90 LG EXECUTIVES AND WARD OFFICIALS LOYAL TO HON. ALEX MASCOT RESIGN FROM APGA

Over 90 local government executives and ward officials from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Aba North and Aba South have tendered their resignations, effective immediately.

The mass defection has effectively dismantled the party's grassroots structure in the two local government areas. The resigning officials, who have declared themselves loyalists of Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, announced their departure in a statement released to the public.

Hon. Alex Ifeanyi Mascot Ikwechegh is the member representing Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives under the platform of APGA.

Among those stepping down are the LGA Chairmen, Secretaries, Women Leaders, and Youth Leaders for both Aba North and Aba South, along with dozens of ward-level executives. Notable resignations include Hon. Chinagorom Nwanyuanwu (Chairman, Aba South), Hon. Victor Urum (Chairman, Aba North), Mrs. Grace Eke A (Secretary, Aba South), and Hon. Okoro Chima Peter (Secretary, Aba North).

In a joint statement, the officials expressed gratitude for their time in the party. "We thank the party for the opportunity to serve and remain forever grateful," the statement read.

The mass resignation raises immediate questions about the political future of the group. While the officials have yet to announce their next political destination, political observers in the state are closely watching the movement of the Ikwechegh loyalists, speculating on a potential realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections. Some analysts suggest the group may be positioning to support Governor Otti, whom Ikwechegh has publicly praised, though no official confirmation has been given. Other credible sources say that "Onyeocha na Aba," as the popular politician is fondly called, is being wooed by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and a defection is imminent.

The development leaves APGA with a significant organizational vacuum in the commercial hub of Abia State, requiring an urgent restructuring effort to rebuild its presence in the two LGAs.
