BREAKING NEWS: DAVID UMAHI RESPONDS TO ALLEGATIONS INVOLVING TRACY OHIRI, ORDERS LEGAL ACTION
The Honourable Minister of Works, David Umahi, has addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding claims made by Mrs. Tracy Ohiri, clarifying key issues and directing that the matter be resolved through the courts.
In a statement released by his media aide, Francis Nwaze, the Minister explained that Marshall Abubakar, who has been linked to the matter, acted in good faith and was solely motivated by a desire to assist Mrs. Ohiri in resolving the dispute amicably.
The statement stressed that the lawyer neither discussed nor negotiated any financial settlement on behalf of the Minister.
According to the Minister, no money was requested or received by Marshall Abubakar at any point. However, some associates and concerned individuals had independently shown willingness to support Mrs. Ohiri.
The Minister further revealed that he had set two clear conditions for resolving the issue: that the matter be determined in court or that Mrs. Ohiri provide verifiable evidence, including all relevant communications, to support her claims.
With the alleged failure to meet these conditions—particularly the inability to produce credible evidence—the Minister has now instructed his legal team to proceed with all necessary court actions to establish the truth.
The statement also disclosed that the Minister had indicated that if Mrs. Ohiri could present complete and verifiable evidence, some associates were willing to raise up to N1 billion to support her claims. He noted that he is still awaiting such evidence.
The Minister, who had remained silent for years despite repeated public criticism, said his restraint was intentional, allowing him to focus on national service. However, recent developments, he said, made it necessary to publicly address the matter.
David Umahi reaffirmed his commitment to delivering critical infrastructure projects across Nigeria, stating that he would not be distracted from his mandate.
He also expressed appreciation to Nigerians who have critically examined the situation, noting that public awareness is growing regarding the complexity of the claims and counterclaims.
The statement concluded by assuring Nigerians of the administration’s continued commitment to transparency, accountability, and national development.
