A State High Court in Awka, Anambra State, has sentenced popular native doctor, Chukwudozie Nwangwu, widely known as “Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki,” to prison over multiple criminal charges linked to rit¥al practices. Mr Nwangwu was arrested in February 2025 by operatives of Agunechemba, a local vigilante group, over allegations of preparing charms for criminals. The Anambra State Police later slammed him with a 10-count charge bordering on rit¥al activities, robbery, conspiracy, aiding internet fra¥dsters and preparing charms for criminal purposes. Although he had earlier pleaded not guilty, he changed his plea during Friday’s proceedings. Trial judge, Justice Jude Obiora, subsequently convicted him on counts 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, while striking out counts 1, 2, 9 and 10. The court sentenced him to two years imprisonment on each of the six counts — totalling 12 years — but ruled that the terms would run concurrently, reducing the effective sentence to two years.
