FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DECLARES THURSDAY 19TH AND FRIDAY 20TH MARCH 2026 AS PUBLIC HOLIDAYS TO MARK EID-UL-FITR

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, 19th March, and Friday, 20th March 2026, as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, which signifies the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, extended warm greetings and heartfelt congratulations to the Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan.

The Minister urges Muslims to sustain the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice, which were emphasized during the holy month.

He also called on all Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the continued peace, unity, and prosperity of the nation.

While wishing the Muslim faithful a joyful Eid-ul-Fitr celebration, the Minister encourages citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend acts of kindness to the less privileged in society.

The federal government remains committed to fostering national unity and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.

The Aleto community in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State has renewed its call for transparency, accountability and justice over funds allegedly allocated to landowners and host communities connected to Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals, Fertiliser and Super-Packaging companies. Aleto is one of the six host communities to Indorama Eleme. The community says it donated about 159 hectares of land out of approximately 369 hectares used for the development of the company, with the land forming part of the equity arrangement involving the host communities. According to members of the community, families that surrendered their farmlands for the project have, since 2012, continued to demand a clear account of funds and benefits allegedly meant for landowners and other beneficiaries. Tragedy struck in Akuku-Toru as the official vehicle of the Councillor representing Ward 14, Hon. Chidinma Ekere of Obonoma, was reportedly burnt to ashes under mysterious circumstances. The vehicle, which was presented to the councillor by the Council Chairman just over two weeks ago, was allegedly destroyed between Sunday night, following her birthday thanksgiving celebration, and the early hours of Monday, when the wreckage was discovered. An anonymous source familiar with the situation alleged that the councillor had an issue with her boyfriend on Sunday night, shortly before the incident. However, the claim has not been independently verified, and it remains unclear whether the reported disagreement is connected to the burning of the vehicle. The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the de@th of 23-year-old Faith Ajoke Alayande, a student of the Nigerian Law School, Lagos Campus, Victoria Island. Alayande was reportedly found de@d within the hostel premises on Friday, August 7, 2026, after she allegedly jumped from the rooftop of a four-storey hostel building. According to the police, a s¥ic+de note was reportedly discovered by her hostel mate and a relative, who began searching for her before she was allegedly found after the incident. The matter was reported to the Victoria Island Police Division by the hostel’s Chief Matron at about 6:30 a.m. Police officers subsequently visited the scene and evacuated Alayande’s body to a morgue for preservation.
