FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DECLARES THURSDAY 19TH AND FRIDAY 20TH MARCH 2026 AS PUBLIC HOLIDAYS TO MARK EID-UL-FITR

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, 19th March, and Friday, 20th March 2026, as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, which signifies the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, extended warm greetings and heartfelt congratulations to the Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan.

The Minister urges Muslims to sustain the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice, which were emphasized during the holy month.

He also called on all Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the continued peace, unity, and prosperity of the nation.

While wishing the Muslim faithful a joyful Eid-ul-Fitr celebration, the Minister encourages citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend acts of kindness to the less privileged in society.

The federal government remains committed to fostering national unity and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.

RIVERS STATE POLICE COMMAND TO BEGIN CRACKDOWN ON TINTED VEHICLES AND UNDOCUMENTED CARS FROM MARCH 16TH 2026

The Rivers State Police Command has announced plans to begin a statewide clampdown on vehicles operating without valid registration number plates or those with covered or obscured plates starting Monday, March 16, 2026. In a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, the police said vehicles found using revolving or flashing lights without official authorization will also be impounded. According to the statement, the enforcement exercise is aimed at improving public safety, strengthening crime prevention efforts, and ensuring strict compliance with traffic regulations across the state. The Command noted that vehicles without proper identification, as well as those illegally using revolving lights, pose serious security risks and are often linked to criminal activities. The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has expressed strong concern over a reported incident at the Federal High Court in Abuja involving Justice Mohammed Umar and a legal practitioner, Marshall Abubakar. According to reports, the incident occurred on Monday, March 16, 2026, during proceedings involving activist Omoyele Sowore.
