The Federal Government has disbursed about ₦688bn to over 9.2 million Nigerians under the Household Prosperity and Empowerment Cash Transfer (HOPE-CT) programme, according to Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro.

Speaking in Abuja, he said the scheme supports vulnerable households with ₦75,000 paid in three tranches to ease the impact of economic reforms. “So far, over 9.17 million beneficiaries have received the first payment, while millions have also accessed subsequent tranches, with disbursement ongoing” he added.

The programme, running from November 2023 to February 2026, uses the National Social Register and requires NIN or BVN verification to ensure transparency.

Doro noted that women make up the majority of beneficiaries, accounting for 58.7 per cent, highlighting the programme’s role in supporting families and community stability.
