RIVERS STATE POLICE COMMAND TO BEGIN CRACKDOWN ON TINTED VEHICLES AND UNDOCUMENTED CARS FROM MARCH 16TH 2026
The Rivers State Police Command has announced plans to begin a statewide clampdown on vehicles operating without valid registration number plates or those with covered or obscured plates starting Monday, March 16, 2026.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, the police said vehicles found using revolving or flashing lights without official authorization will also be impounded.
According to the statement, the enforcement exercise is aimed at improving public safety, strengthening crime prevention efforts, and ensuring strict compliance with traffic regulations across the state.
The Command noted that vehicles without proper identification, as well as those illegally using revolving lights, pose serious security risks and are often linked to criminal activities.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Olugbenga Adepoju, assured residents that the operation would be carried out professionally, fairly, and without bias.
The police also warned against the use of tinted glasses on commercial vehicles, explaining that such vehicles are often exploited by “one chance” kidnapping syndicates to carry out criminal activities.
Residents were therefore advised to be vigilant when boarding vehicles with heavily tinted windows.
Motorists were urged to ensure their vehicles are properly registered, display clear and visible number plates, remove any unauthorized revolving or flashing lights, and always carry relevant vehicle documents while driving.
The Command added that defaulters will have their vehicles impounded and may face prosecution in accordance with the law.
Residents were also encouraged to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
The police reiterated their commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining law and order across Rivers State.
