ATIKU ALLEGES PLOT TO REVOKE LICENSE OF RAINBOW EVENT CENTER, VENUE FOR THE ADC NATIONAL CONVENTION.
A fresh political controversy has emerged following claims by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that there are moves by government agents to revoke the licence of Rainbow Event Centre, the venue scheduled to host the party’s national convention on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
In a strongly worded statement attributed to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the development was described as a “shameful and cowardly abuse of public office,” accusing authorities of attempting to frustrate the party’s activities.
The statement alleged that the planned revocation is linked solely to the venue’s decision to host the ADC convention, despite the party reportedly fulfilling all legal and financial requirements, including payment of fees and signing of necessary agreements.
According to the statement, pressuring a private business to deny a legally registered opposition party access to a venue undermines democratic principles and threatens the rights to free assembly and political participation.
The ADC maintained that it has not violated any laws and insisted that its growing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections should not be met with intimidation or administrative actions.
The party further called on the international community and Nigeria’s democratic partners to take note of what it described as actions capable of weakening democratic institutions.
Despite the allegations, the ADC expressed confidence that its national convention would proceed as planned, reiterating its commitment to democratic processes and political engagement.
