BREAKING NEWS: JULIUS MALEMA SENTENCE TO 5YEARS IN PRISON FOLLOWING A FIREARM DISCHARGE CASE.
The leader of South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema, has been sentenced to an effective five-year term of imprisonment for unlawfully discharging a firearm during the party’s 2018 rally in Mdantsane.
The judgment was delivered by Magistrate Twanet Olivier at the KuGompo City Regional Court. Malema was handed a five-year sentence on the primary charge and an additional two years on a secondary count.
He was also fined R20,000 on other related charges, with the option of serving six months’ imprisonment for each count if the fines are not paid. However, the court ordered that all sentences run concurrently, meaning they will be served at the same time.
