MINISTER OF POWER, BAYO ADELABU SET TO RESIGN IN COMING DAYS -- SPECIAL ADVISER

Adebayo Adelabu is anticipated to step down from his role as Minister of Power in coming days, according to his Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, Bolaji Tunji.

A statement from Bolaji Tunji, the Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, on Tuesday, highlighted that a key aspect of the engagement was the presentation of the National Integrated Electricity Policy along with its Strategic Implementation Plan.

The statement reads: “In view of this development, Chief Adebayo Adelabu is expected to resign his position as Minister of Power in the coming days.

“The timing of his anticipated resignation reflects his commitment to addressing key sectoral challenges and ensuring continuity in ongoing reforms prior to exiting office. Notably, this includes efforts to stabilise the sector following recent declines in power generation due to gas supply constraints to power plants, ongoing pipeline repairs, and outstanding obligations to gas suppliers, as well as the need to secure the President’s approval for his intended resignation and gubernatorial aspiration in Oyo State.

“During the meeting, the minister outlined key milestones recorded under his leadership, including efforts to stabilise electricity generation, strengthen transmission capacity, and implement reforms aimed at enhancing efficiency and service delivery across the power sector value chain.”

The Aleto community in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State has renewed its call for transparency, accountability and justice over funds allegedly allocated to landowners and host communities connected to Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals, Fertiliser and Super-Packaging companies. Aleto is one of the six host communities to Indorama Eleme. Alayande was reportedly found de@d within the hostel premises on Friday, August 7, 2026, after she allegedly jumped from the rooftop of a four-storey hostel building. According to the police, a s¥ic+de note was reportedly discovered by her hostel mate and a relative, who began searching for her before she was allegedly found after the incident. The matter was reported to the Victoria Island Police Division by the hostel’s Chief Matron at about 6:30 a.m. Police officers subsequently visited the scene and evacuated Alayande’s body to a morgue for preservation.
