NOT HAVING S£X FIVE TIMES A WEEK CAN LEAD TO MENTAL DISORDER
Claims circulate online suggesting that not having sex several times a week can lead to mental disorders. However, scientific research does not support a specific number or frequency of sexual activity required for mental health.
What studies do show is that positive physical intimacy and emotional connection can influence mood through the release of certain brain chemicals. During intimate moments, the body may release Dopamine, Serotonin, and Oxytocin, which are associated with pleasure, emotional bonding, and stress reduction.
These neurochemicals interact with the brain’s Reward System, which plays a role in motivation, mood regulation, and feelings of wellbeing. Because of this, healthy relationships and emotional closeness can contribute to improved mental wellbeing.
However, mental health is influenced by many factors, including sleep, stress, social support, genetics, and lifestyle. There is no medical guideline stating that a certain number of sexual encounters per week is required to prevent mental disorders.
In other words, while intimacy can support emotional wellbeing, mental health does not depend on meeting a specific weekly number. Balanced relationships, healthy habits, and emotional support remain far more important for long-term psychological health.
