APC CLEARS GOVERNOR FUBARA FOR APC GOVERNORSHIP PRIMARIES

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has cleared Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State and 29 other sitting governors of the party as aspirants eligible to contest the party’s governorship primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Party sources confirmed to Vanguard that Governor Fubara, alongside other APC governors including Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, and notable figures such as former Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Sarafadeen Alli, were among those who scaled through the party’s screening exercise.

According to the sources, a total of thirty governors of the APC were cleared for the governorship primaries as the party intensifies preparations for the 2027 polls.

The development comes amid reports of a flood of petitions that is currently stalling the final release of the comprehensive screening report. Despite this, the APC had earlier announced plans to publish the list of cleared aspirants on Tuesday, May 13, in line with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timelines for the upcoming elections.

Vanguard gathered that the APC screened no fewer than 2,980 aspirants across various positions, broken down as follows:

* One presidential slot
* 28 governorship positions
* 109 Senatorial seats
* 360 House of Representatives seats
* 991 State Assembly positions

The clearance of Governor Fubara is seen as a significant boost for the APC in Rivers State, where political tensions have lingered since his fallout with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. Fubara’s formal entry into the APC and subsequent clearance signals a major realignment in the state’s political landscape ahead of 2027.

Party insiders indicate that while the screening process has been largely successful, the leadership is meticulously addressing all petitions to ensure transparency and fairness before releasing the final list of cleared aspirants to the public.

Further updates on the full list of cleared aspirants and the resolution of pending petitions are expected in the coming days as the APC continues to tighten its structures and strategies for the 2027 general elections.
