INEC DECLARES PDP’S OLAKA NWOGU WINNER OF RIVERS SOUTH EAST SENATORIAL BYE-ELECTION

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Olaka Nwogu, winner of the Rivers South East Senatorial District bye-election held on Saturday.

The Returning Officer for the election, Professor Rosemary Ogu, announced the result at the collation centre located at the Khana Local Government Secretariat in Bori, Rivers State.

According to the final declaration, Olaka Nwogu of the PDP secured a total of 46,961 votes to emerge victorious in the keenly contested poll.

He defeated his closest opponent, Osarokaka Ebenezer Erewari of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who polled 1,647 votes.

The PDP candidate, a known ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, was officially returned elected after the final collation of results.
