YOUNG MAN CONFIRMED INNOCENT AFTER BRUTAL ASSAULT OVER FALSE THEFT ALLEGATION IN ANAMBRA

A man was br¥tally a§§aulted by a group of unidentified persons after he was accused of st+aling money in Onitsha, Anambra State. 

In a video circulating on Facebook, the victim repeatedly swore on the lives of his mother and siblings that he was innocent and had not st%len the money. 

Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of the Human Rights Defenders (HURIDE), Ebonyi State chapter, Sampson Iko Nweke, said it was later confirmed that the man was innocent. 

Condemning the att@ck, Nweke described it as an act of jungle justice, stressing that no one should be subjected to such treatment over an unverified allegation. He urged the victim to seek legal redress and appealed to anyone who knows him to help him get justice.

ABIA GOVERNMENT BANS COMMERCIAL MOTORCYCLES IN UMUAHIA, ABA, AND OHAFIA

The Abia State Government has announced a ban on the operation of commercial motorcycles, popularly known as okada, within the metropolitan areas of Umuahia, Aba, and Ohafia. According to a press release issued on Saturday by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, the ban was approved by Governor Alex Otti and will take effect from Monday, June 22, 2026. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Olaka Nwogu, winner of the Rivers South East Senatorial District bye-election held on Saturday. The Returning Officer for the election, Professor Rosemary Ogu, announced the result at the collation centre located at the Khana Local Government Secretariat in Bori, Rivers State. According to the final declaration, Olaka Nwogu of the PDP secured a total of 46,961 votes to emerge victorious in the keenly contested poll. He defeated his closest opponent, Osarokaka Ebenezer Erewari of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who polled 1,647 votes.
