COMMERCIAL BUS DRIVER ARRESTED OVER ALLEGED DELIBERATE K!LL!NG OF PASSENGER FOLLOWING AN ARGUMENT DURING ONITSHA-TO-LAGOS TRIP
A commercial bus driver, Mr. Ifeanyi Ukwaja, from Umegunpa in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, has been arrested over allegations that he deliberately caused a f@tal road crash after a disagreement with a passenger.
According to the police, Ukwaja, a driver with Agbasi City Mass Transit Nigeria Limited, had earlier this month loaded passengers from Onitsha en route to Lagos. During the journey, he reportedly got into a heated argument with one of the passengers and allegedly thr£atened that he would “deal with” him.
Police alleged that after passing Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State, Ukwaja intentionally rammed the bus into a truck parked by the roadside in a bid to k+ll the passenger he had quarreled with.
The impact reportedly k+lled the passenger, who was seated at the front right side of the bus, instantly, while several other passengers sustained varying degrees of inj¥ries.
Authorities further alleged that instead of reporting the incident, the driver came down from the bus, picked up his bag, abandoned the scene, and returned to his hometown in Ahiazu Mbaise, Imo State, without making a report at any nearby police station.
Police said he was later traced by the transport company and arrested by Inspector Monday Christova. He was brought to the Ahiazu Mbaise Police Station on July 18, 2026, before being handed over to Inspector Christova for onward transfer to Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, where he is expected to face prosecution.
