2027 ELECTION: PANIC GRIPS NIGERIANS AS ATIKU BUNDLES TINUBU TO COURT, SEEKS DISQUALIFICATION OVER ALLEGED FORGED CERTIFICATE

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dragged President Bola Tinubu before the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking his disqualification from the 2027 presidential election over an alleged forged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate.

Atiku appeared at the registry on Friday to swear to an affidavit supporting the suit against Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The suit invokes Sections 137(1)(j), 139(1)(a)(i) and 285(14)(c) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended. Section 137(1)(j) provides that a person is not qualified for election as President if he has presented a forged certificate to INEC.

According to Atiku’s affidavit, the disputed NYSC discharge certificate allegedly submitted to INEC bears the name “Tinubu Bola Adekunle” rather than “Bola Ahmed Tinubu.” The plaintiffs further allege that the certificate was not obtained by Tinubu and was submitted in connection with the 2027 presidential election.

The allegations have not been established in court, and the judge will determine the document’s authenticity and legal implications.

Atiku is also asking the court to compel INEC to produce Tinubu’s Form CF001 submitted for the 2023 and 2027 presidential elections, saying he had previously sought certified copies but did not receive them.

The plaintiffs are challenging provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 which they argue restrict challenges to presidential candidates’ qualifications at the pre-election stage. They maintain that the Constitution must prevail where legislation conflicts with it.

They are asking the court to disqualify Tinubu and the APC from the 2027 presidential election if the allegations are established.

The case places the disputed NYSC document, Tinubu’s qualification and INEC’s electoral records at the centre of a key legal battle ahead of the 2027 election.
