APOLOGISE TO CHIEF LESI MAOL OR FACE LEGAL ACTION - OGONI YOUTH LEADER TELLS GANI TOPBA OVER REMARKS ON LESI MAOL

The National Secretary General of the Ogoni Youth Coalition Movement (OYCM) Worldwide, Hon. Korne Ngbor, has called on leaders and people of Ogoniland to disregard what he described as “frivolous, unfounded and attention-seeking allegations” allegedly made against Chief Lesi Maol by Chief Gani Topba.

Ngbor, who described himself as an illustrious son of Ogoniland and spokesperson of the Ogoni Youth Council and Stakeholders, made the appeal in a statement issued on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

He alleged that Gani Topba had over time made controversial statements capable of generating unnecessary public attention, urging Ogoni leaders and members of the public to give such allegations serious consideration only when supported by credible facts and evidence.

The youth leader also demanded an unreserved public apology and written undertaking from Topba over what he described as defamatory or reckless statements against Chief Lesi Maol.

According to him, failure to receive the demanded apology would leave the group with no option but to advise its principal to explore appropriate legal remedies available under the law.

Ngbor further defended Chief Lesi Maol’s position on the need for Ogoni youths to unite under one umbrella with a clear mandate focused on strengthening their collective voice, unity and development.

He said the proposal had received widespread support from many sons and daughters of Ogoniland, stressing that the region currently needs unity, purposeful leadership and a common agenda rather than division and personal attacks.

“At this critical time, Ogoniland does not need unnecessary division, personal attacks or distractions. What we need is unity, purposeful leadership and a common agenda for the advancement of our people,” he stated.

Ngbor concluded by urging Ogoni youths to remain united, stressing that collective action remains essential to advancing the interests and development of Ogoniland.

“ We are stronger together. In unity, we shall drive Ogoniland forward,” he added.
