"HYPREP IS DOING SO MUCH IN OGONILAND, YOU CAN GO BACK TO OGONI AND TAKE PICTURES AT THE CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE, AND PEOPLE WILL THINK YOU'RE IN ZANZIBAR OR QATAR." - KORNE

Hon. Korne Ngbor, National Secretary-General of the Ogoni Youth Coalition Movement (OYCM) Worldwide, has called for greater unity among youth groups in Ogoniland, stressing that a united youth body is essential for sustainable development in the region.

Speaking with Zubby on Rhythm 93.7 FM, Port Harcourt, Ngbor also commended the President of Kagote, Chief Lesi Maol, for urging various youth groups in Ogoniland to unite under one umbrella.

According to him, the Ogoni youth need to put aside divisions and work together in the interest of the people.

«“NYCOP is the only youth body that speaks for Ogoni youth. Every other youth group falls under NYCOP. The youths need to be united because it is only through the unity of the youth that development can thrive in Ogoniland,” Ngbor said.»

He described Chief Lesi Maol’s call for unity as a welcome development, urging well-meaning Ogoni leaders to support the initiative.

«“The thought that came to the Kagote President to unite the youth bodies is a welcome development. Every well-meaning leader in Ogoniland should embrace it,” he stated.»

Ngbor also claimed that Barinuezor Emmanuel is the only legitimate President of the National Youth Council of Ogoni People (NYCOP), adding that his tenure is expected to end in December 2026.

«“Barinuezor Emmanuel is the only NYCOP President who will serve out his tenure, which ends in December this year,” he said.»

He further cautioned groups or individuals who, according to him, speak on behalf of Ogoni without representing the recognised bodies.

«“Anything you do outside MOSOP, KAGOTE and NYCOP while speaking on behalf of Ogoni is a criminal act,” he warned.»

Ngbor, however, concluded by commending the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) for what he described as significant development projects across Ogoniland.

He specifically referenced the Centre of Excellence and health centre, saying the projects have transformed parts of Ogoniland.

«“HYPREP is doing so much in Ogoniland. You can go back to Ogoni and take pictures at the Centre of Excellence, and people will think you’re in Zanzibar or Qatar,” he said.»

The comments come amid renewed calls for greater coordination and unity among Ogoni youth organisations and stakeholders.
