I WAS ONCE A TAXI DRIVER IN AMERICA - PRESIDENT TINUBU

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a statement has described his time working in the United States as a young man and linked those experiences to his administration’s student loan programme.

President Tinubu stated that after arriving in the United States he drove a taxi to raise money for his education and postponed starting school for several months in order to save enough funds. He said that once in Chicago he took on different jobs to support himself and pay his way through university, covering tuition, accommodation and living expenses.

He noted that those experiences have remained with him and that he understands the pressure of managing education costs while studying. President Tinubu added that education created opportunities in his own life and that he believes Nigerian children should have similar access regardless of where they are born or their parents’ financial situation.

He cited this background as one reason education is a priority for his administration. According to Tinubu, NELFUND has provided over ₦372 billion in student loans for institutional fees and upkeep to help young Nigerians remain in school.

TERRORIST AMBUSH POLICE VEHICLE ALONG SOKOTO-ZAMFARA ROAD KILLING OFFICERS

Suspected bandits have att@cked a vehicle conveying Nigerian police officers travelling from Sokoto State to Zamfara State for a special duty assignment, k+lling several personnel. According to reports, the att@ck occurred on Monday as the officers made their way to Zamfara for the assignment. The exact number of officers k+lled in the incident, as well as whether any personnel survived, had yet to be established as of the time of filing this report. President Bola Tinubu has defended his administration’s decision to secure additional loans, insisting that the focus should be on what the borrowed funds are used to achieve rather than the amount borrowed.  He listed major infrastructure projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, Trans-Sahara Superhighway, electricity grid upgrades and the modernisation of key ports in Lagos, as investments expected to boost Nigeria’s productive capacity.  Tinubu said the Lagos-Calabar highway could reduce logistics costs along its corridor by 15–20 per cent, contribute up to two per cent to GDP and create about 100,000 direct jobs, with more than 150,000 indirect jobs.  “We are not simply building highways.
