"IF OUR GOVERNMENT CANNOT WIPE OUT BANDITS, WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO CALL ON INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY TO ACT" - OBASANJO CHALLENGES CURRENT GOVERNMENT AGAINST RISING INSECURITY | #RWGBLOG
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has issued a stern warning to the federal government over the rising wave of b@nditry and t+rrorist att+cks across Nigeria. He emphasized that if the government cannot protect its citizens, Nigerians have the right to appeal to the international community for intervention.
Obasanjo recalled that during his administration, Nigeria had the capacity to locate t+rrorists, and the main challenge was how to neutralize them effectively. “Today, with modern technology such as drones, there is no reason why the government cannot decisively tackle these criminals,” he said.
He criticized the current administration’s reliance on apologies and negotiations with armed groups, saying such approaches only embolden perpetrators. “I urge the government to stop negotiating and start doing the right thing. You cannot keep negotiating with those determined to destroy the country,” Obasanjo stressed.
The former president urged President Tinubu’s government to adopt stronger security measures, including better coordination among security agencies, deployment of modern surveillance tools, and enhanced border controls to prevent infiltration by foreign fighters.
Obasanjo warned that continued inaction may force citizens to seek help from international partners, a step he described as “embarrassing but inevitable” if the state cannot guarantee safety. He called on the government to act decisively, restore public confidence, and demonstrate that Nigeria can defend its people against insecurity.
