81 YEAR OLD, YOWERI MUSEVENI RE-ELECTED AS UGANDA'S PRESIDENT FOR 7TH TERM

Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni has been declared winner of the country’s presidential election, securing a seventh term in office after a controversial vote marked by vi%lence, arrests and a nationwide internet shutdown.

Museveni, 81, was announced winner with 71.65 percent of the vote, extending his rule of Uganda to nearly four decades. His main challenger, bobi wine, a 43-year-old singer-turned-politician, polled 24.72 percent.

Rather than accepting the result, bobi wine says he is now on the run after security forces allegedly raided his home on Friday night. According to him, he escaped the operation, but his wife and other family members were left under house arrest.

“I managed to escape from them. they are looking for me everywhere and I’m trying to keep safe,” he wrote on X.

Police have denied raiding his residence, saying they only restricted movement around certain areas they consider security hotspots to prevent unrest. However, residents near wine’s home reported seeing heavy security presence, drones and helicopters overnight, sparking fear in the neighbourhood.
