23-YEAR-OLD PREGNANT WOMAN TAKES HER LIFE AFTER HUSBAND DEMANDS DNA TEST FOR UNBORN CHILD
A 23-year-old pregnant woman in India, G Sushmita, reportedly took her life after allegedly facing repeated physical and emotional ab¥se from her husband, who demanded a DNA test for their unborn child.
The incident occurred in Gadipeddapur village, Medak district, and led to the arrest of her husband, G Abhilash, and his mother, Laxmi, on Saturday, June 27, 2026. Police said both suspects were arraigned before a magistrate and remanded in custody.
Sushmita, who was five months pregnant, was found h@nging in her home on June 25. According to a complaint filed by her mother, G Janabai, the har@ssment had been ongoing, but worsened after Abhilash demanded a DNA test during a family meeting on June 23 to discuss plans for the baby’s shower ceremony.
The request, made in the presence of both families, allegedly left Sushmita deeply humiliated and emotionally distressed. Her family claimed the accusation cast doubt on her character and severely affected her mental well-being. Two days later, she reportedly took her life.
Janabai also alleged that continuous har@ssment by her husband and mother-in-law pushed her daughter to the tragic decision. Police registered a case under sections relating to cruelty by a husband or relative, abetment, and common intention under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Following a post-mortem examination, Sushmita’s body was released to her family for burial.
