"HE HAS DONE HIS BIT" - PASTOR ADEBOYE DEFENDS TINUBU OVER INSECURITY
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has defended President Bola Tinubu against criticisms over the country’s worsening security situation, saying the president has fulfilled his responsibility by directing the military to tackle the challenge.
Adeboye made the remarks while speaking at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, D.C., where he argued that it was unreasonable to expect the president to personally participate in military operations.
“I don’t support those who are accusing the president of not doing enough. When the commander-in-chief has given instructions to his subordinates, he has done his bit. You don’t expect him to go and put on khaki and f+ght,” he said.
The cleric compared Tinubu’s role to that of US President Donald Trump, noting that presidents issue directives to their armed forces instead of taking part in combat operations.
Despite defending the president, Adeboye acknowledged that insecurity has worsened across Nigeria. He said terr%rism and kidn@pping, once largely concentrated in the North, have spread to the South, leaving many Nigerians questioning the country’s situation.
He disclosed that he had discussed the security challenges with President Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, urging the president to give military commanders a 90-day deadline to eliminate terr%rism or resign.
Adeboye also stressed the need for authorities to target those financing terr%rist activities, describing them as influential businessmen and politicians whose actions continue to fuel insecurity.
He also called on the United States and other countries to support Nigeria’s efforts to combat terrorism and restore lasting security across the country.
