"SIX MONTHS HAVE PASSED, YET THE REPORT ON THE COLLAPSE OF THE HYPREP WATER TANKS HAS NOT BEEN MADE PUBLIC." - CERTIFIED COURTIST
A social media commentator known as Certified Cultist has called on the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) to make public the findings of its investigative committee on the collapse of two water tanks in Ogoniland.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page on Saturday, the commentator expressed concern over what he described as HYPREP's continued silence regarding the incident, despite the passage of several months since the committee was established.
Recall that in November last year, two HYPREP water tanks collapsed in Gwara and Ebubu communities. The collapse of the Gwara water tank attracted widespread criticism after it reportedly gave way just four days after it was commissioned.
Following the incident, several stakeholders and concerned citizens called for the removal of the HYPREP Project Coordinator and the Board Chairman, citing what they described as administrative failures in ensuring quality control and proper project supervision.
According to Certified Cultist, HYPREP subsequently set up an investigative committee to determine the cause of the collapses. However, six months later, the agency has yet to publicly release the committee's findings or provide a detailed explanation of what led to the failures.
He argued that members of the public have a right to know the outcome of the investigation and called on HYPREP to disclose the identities of the contractors involved, the contract sums, engineering designs, and the quality of materials used in the projects.
The commentator further maintained that those found responsible for any negligence should be held accountable, stressing that transparency is necessary to restore public confidence.
He described the continued withholding of the report as unacceptable and urged HYPREP to make the findings available for public scrutiny.
