"YOU BUY A CAR WITH THE PROCEEDS OF CRIME AND THEN ASK OGONI PEOPLE TO POST IT ON SOCIAL MEDIA. OGONI PEOPLE SHOULD GROW UP." - CHIEF GANI TOPBA
Activist Chief Gani Topba has continued to make allegations against businessman Chief Lesi Maol, accusing him of amassing wealth through activities linked to Ogoni oil and other alleged crimes.
On May 30, 2026, Topba took to social media, claiming that there was a plot to use security agencies to arrest him. The video quickly went viral, generating widespread reactions across Ogoniland and beyond.
In one of the videos, Topba alleged that Lesi Maol had been undermining the Federal Government's efforts toward the resumption of oil activities in Ogoniland.
«"We know all of them. They are responsible for importing ammunition into Ogoniland. They have been sabotaging the Federal Government's efforts on oil resumption in Ogoniland," Topba alleged.»
The allegations sparked intense debate on social media, with many people questioning the source of the billionaire businessman’s wealth, while others dismissed the claims as unsubstantiated.
In a fresh video released days after Lesi Maol reportedly acquired a 2026 Lexus LX 600 bulletproof SUV, Topba criticized those celebrating the businessman.
«"Ogoni people should grow up and stop celebrating people who buy cars with proceeds from crime. Young people in other parts of the world own such vehicles in large numbers and do not make noise about them. That is a poverty mentality," he said.»
Topba further stated that he is not intimidated by anyone and maintained that he has submitted petitions to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force, calling for an investigation into Lesi Maol's activities in Ogoniland from 2000 to date.
As of the time of this report, Lesi Maol has not publicly responded to the latest allegations.
