DON'T UNDERESTIMATE THE AKARA BUSINESS - NYSC DG TELLS CORPS MEMBERS TO BUILD MULTIPLE INCOME STREAM

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig. Gen. Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has urged corps members serving in Kogi State to embrace entrepreneurship and explore opportunities that can help them build sustainable sources of income.

Speaking during a working visit to the NYSC Kogi State Secretariat, the DG encouraged corps members to take every legitimate opportunity seriously, stressing that there is dignity in labour.

“I urge you to identify market needs, develop solutions, and create multiple streams of income instead of relying solely on monthly allowances,” he said.

Using the widely discussed “Akara” business as an example, Nafiu advised corps members not to look down on small businesses that have the potential to transform their lives.

He also reminded them that Nigeria’s large population offers enormous opportunities for entrepreneurship and wealth creation, urging them not to despise humble beginnings but to remain focused, innovative and prudent in managing their monthly allowances.

The NYSC boss assured corps members that he would engage the Kogi State Government over the issue of state allowances. He also directed the Kogi State Coordinator to stop posting corps members to private establishments that neither provide accommodation nor pay stipends.

“Corps members are to be mentored and equipped with relevant skills at their places of primary assignment rather than being subjected to exploitation,” he stated.

Nafiu further disclosed that the scheme would introduce improvements to corps members’ welfare, including increased transportation support to orientation camps, better feeding arrangements and improved quality of NYSC kits from next year.

He also commended members of staff for their dedication and commitment to duty, assuring them that the scheme’s management would continue to prioritise their welfare while urging them to maintain professionalism in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Nigerian security forces have released photos of the intelligence-led operation that rescued pupils and teachers abducted by Ansaru terrorists in Oyo State on May 15, 2026. Daily Trust reports the search and rescue operation, which concluded July 9, followed a direct presidential mandate and was executed by a Defence Headquarters-directed Joint Inter-Agency Task Force comprising Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, DSS, NIA, DIA and NSCDC. RIVERS GOVERNOR SIMINALAYI FUBARA PRESENTS 2026 BUDGET, CHARTS PATH TO ECONOMIC GROWTH

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has presented the 2026 Appropriation Bill of ₦1.854 trillion to the Rivers State House of Assembly for consideration and approval. The budget, titled "Budget of Resilience for Growth and Development," represents a 24.49 per cent increase over the 2025 budget.  Governor Fubara attributed the increase to improved allocations from the Federation Account Allocation Committee and sustained economic growth. The proposed budget projects internally generated revenue of ₦487.6 billion, FAAC allocation of about ₦936 billion, and capital receipts of about ₦382.4 billion.  On the expenditure side, the governor proposed ₦413.1 billion for recurrent spending. EFCC ARRESTS BANKER FOR STEALING N294.5M FROM CUSTOMERS' ACCOUNTS IN LAGOS

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a former staff member of Access Bank, Chinonso Akujobi, over the alleged th£ft of N294.5 million from customers’ accounts in Lagos. Akujobi was brought before Justice I.O. Ijelu of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja on Thursday by the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 on a five-count charge bordering on st£aling. According to the anti-graft agency, the defendant allegedly diverted a total of N294,595,992 while employed by the bank. One of the charges alleged that between January and December 2025, Akujobi “with a dishonest intent, and while under the employment of Access Bank Plc, st@le and converted for your own use, by unauthorized payments from the general ledger of the bank to your Access Bank account, the sum of N109,325,566.86.” The EFCC further alleged that the funds were transferred into accounts bearing the names Chinonso A., Uchechi A., and Florence A.
