In a significant political realignment in Rivers State, the immediate past Senior Special Assistant to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Hon. Darlington Orji, alongside former Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Collins Onunwo, have reportedly parted ways with the governor’s camp and realigned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The development, which has sent ripples through the state’s political circles, underscores the ongoing power tussle between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Chief Nyesom Wike, who remains a dominant figure in Rivers politics.

Hon. Darlington Orji served as a key ally to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, particularly in the capacity of Senior Special Assistant on Political Affairs. He was among loyalists who stood by Fubara during the intense political crisis that rocked the state in 2023–2024, involving the Rivers State House of Assembly and disputes over control of the party structure.

Similarly, Hon. Collins Onunwo, a former Commissioner for Transport under the Wike administration, had reportedly shifted allegiance to the Fubara camp before this latest move. His return to the Wike fold is seen by observers as a strategic boost to the Minister’s influence, especially in local government areas where Onunwo commands respect.

Sources close to the politicians indicate that the realignment was influenced by a combination of factors, including perceived marginalization within the Fubara administration, ideological differences, and the enduring political machinery of the “Wike camp,” often referred to in local parlance as part of the broader “Rainbow Coalition” or aligned structures.
