IT'S NEVER TOO LATE, 64-YEAR-OLD NIGERIAN SAYS AFTER BECOMING A REGISTERED NURSE IN U.K

A 64-year-old Nigerian-born man, John Adesoye, has fulfilled his dream of becoming a registered nurse in the United Kingdom, saying he hopes his achievement will encourage others to pursue their ambitions regardless of age.

Adesoye, who grew up in Nigeria, previously worked as an electronics technician in Greece before relocating to the UK in 2013. He joined Southmead Hospital in Bristol as a healthcare assistant in 2014 and later completed a registered nurse degree apprenticeship at the University of the West of England while working at the hospital.

Explaining why he switched careers, Adesoye said helping people brings him greater satisfaction than repairing machines.

“When I was caring for electronic devices, I was happy when I could get broken devices working again. In my work in healthcare, when patients get better it gives me great joy and satisfaction.”

Encouraging others to keep chasing their dreams, he added:

“If I can do it, others can too. People are more brilliant and stronger than they think.”

Adesoye, a father of five, also revealed his desire to further his education by pursuing a master’s degree if given the opportunity.

“The moment you start in higher education, you’ll see that the door will continue to open for you. It’s never too late.”

His achievement was praised by his apprenticeship leaders and the Chief Nursing Officer at Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, who described his journey as an inspiring reminder that age should never be a barrier to achieving one’s goals.
